Deadly Lightning Strikes Hit Balochistan: Casualties Reported

QUETTA, PAKISTAN — Late-night thunderstorms in the Saranan area of Balochistan’s Pishin district resulted in tragic incidents of lightning strikes at three locations.

 

Levies sources confirmed that two individuals lost their lives, and three huts belonging to nomads were engulfed in flames due to lightning strikes at the Saranan camp. Additionally, approximately 50 animals perished as a result of the lightning.

 

The occurrence coincides with the entry of a western system into Balochistan from both the south and north, accompanied by thundershowers and hailstorms in the northern upper regions.

 

As per the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), a fresh bout of rainfall has commenced in coastal and northern upper areas of Balochistan, impacting regions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan and Pakistan-Iran borders.

 

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department reported a minimum temperature of 11 degrees Celsius in Peshawar, minus 4 degrees Celsius in Kalam, and 1 degree Celsius in Chitral.

 

Looking ahead, the Meteorological Department forecasts rainfall in the upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from March 13 onwards.
