Karachi/Islamabad, April 23, 2025: K-Electric has successfully wrapped up the submission phase for its Energy Progress & Innovation Challenge (EPIC) 2025, receiving an impressive response from innovators nationwide. Over 250 submissions poured in from academia, startups, entrepreneurs, and researchers across Pakistan, underscoring the country’s rising momentum in energy innovation and localization.
Launched in March, EPIC 2025 builds on the foundation laid by KE’s previous 7/11+ Innovation Challenge. This year’s competition invited problem-solvers to tackle some of the most pressing issues in the power sector with forward-thinking, tech-driven solutions. Participants had the option to explore predefined categories or pursue open innovation.
Entries addressed a wide range of key themes, including:
Real-time fleet tracking for power utilities
Proactive detection of energy theft
AI-based automation of demand forecasting
Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) strategies for managing grid dynamics with increasing renewable integration
Early detection of transformer-level failures
PV impact analysis
Smart transmission line monitoring for enhanced grid reliability
Health indexing for underground medium-voltage cables
Tamper-proof PMT-based load management
And open innovation solutions designed to transform the power sector
Moonis Alvi, CEO of K-Electric, expressed enthusiasm about the response:
“The massive participation in EPIC 2025 is a powerful reminder of the innovative potential within Pakistan. We’re committed to nurturing these ideas and working with participants to develop practical, high-impact solutions that benefit the energy ecosystem and our communities.”
Sadia Dada, Chief Distribution & Marketing Communications Officer at KE, added:
“EPIC is more than a competition—it’s a call to action for a smarter, greener, and more inclusive energy future. The creativity and depth of ideas we’ve received speak volumes about the talent and passion driving innovation in Pakistan.”
With submissions now closed, the next stage of EPIC 2025 kicks off: a detailed evaluation process. Shortlisted candidates will proceed to mentoring rounds and pitch their concepts to a panel of experts. The top three finalists stand to win cash prizes totaling approximately PKR 3 million, along with the potential for a B2B partnership with KE to bring their solutions to life.
