The National Unity Day of the Republic of Belarus is celebrated annually on 17 September. Established by Decree No. 206 of the President on 7 June 2021, it marks the day in 1939 when the reunification of the BSSR and Western Belarus began, following the Red Army’s liberation campaign, after their division in 1921 under the Riga Peace Treaty.
This restored unity allowed Belarus to survive the Great Patriotic War and become one of the founding members of the United Nations.
The day highlights the importance of national unity, where Belarusians, regardless of religion or nationality, come together to celebrate their achievements and defend their homeland.
Though a young holiday, National Unity Day has been warmly embraced, symbolizing the unity of the Belarusian people. Patriotic and cultural events were held across the country to mark the occasion.
