ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN – Jemal Beker Abdula, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, met with Murtaza Solangi, Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, at his Islamabad office on Friday.
The diplomatic rendezvous focused on fostering bilateral cooperation in the realms of information and broadcasting. Ambassador Abdula conveyed a strong desire to initiate collaborative efforts between the state broadcasters of Ethiopia and Pakistan, aiming to exchange information and showcase the rich cultures and tourism of both nations.
Expressing the need for joint action against hybrid warfare, Ambassador Abdula emphasized the importance of disseminating accurate information and narratives. He underscored the role of media in portraying an authentic image, suggesting collaborative projects in films, documentaries, and short videos to enhance cultural exchange.
Highlighting Ethiopia as a gateway to Africa, Ambassador Abdula proposed a key role for the country in connecting Pakistan with the African continent. He mentioned Ethiopia’s thriving media sector and its adaptation to modern trends, including digitization.
Minister Solangi commended Ethiopia’s economic progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and acknowledged its vital role in the Look Africa Initiative. The minister proposed various initiatives to strengthen cooperation in the media industry between the two countries.
In response, Minister Solangi assured Ambassador Abdula of full support in enhancing Ethiopia’s presence in Pakistan. He pledged assistance to the Embassy of Ethiopia in promoting its culture within the country.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to further dialogue and collaborative projects that strengthen the ties between Ethiopia and Pakistan in the field of media and cultural exchange.
