Islamabad: In a detailed media briefing, the Polish Ambassador Maciej Pisarski emphasized Poland’s unwavering commitment to fostering strong bilateral relations with Pakistan, promoting global peace, and addressing pressing international challenges, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict and its implications for global security.
Highlighting 62 years of diplomatic relations, the Ambassador praised the friendly ties between Poland and Pakistan, built on shared values such as respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the rejection of military solutions to global conflicts.
He congratulated Pakistan on its election to the United Nations Security Council for 2025-2026, expressing optimism about Pakistan’s contributions to preventing and resolving international crises. Poland also acknowledged Pakistan’s longstanding participation in UN peacekeeping missions, showcasing both nations’ shared commitment to global peace.
Poland and Pakistan’s cooperation during international crises was also lauded, including the evacuation of Pakistani students from Ukraine and joint efforts during the Kabul crisis in 2021.
The Ambassador Pisarski condemned Russia’s continued aggression against Ukraine, including the use of North Korean troops, ballistic missile attacks, and deliberate targeting of Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure. He described these actions as part of a colonial war and emphasized their destabilizing impact on global security, dragging Asia into a European conflict.
“Ukraine must prevail,” the Ambassador stressed, reaffirming Poland’s solidarity with Ukraine in defending its sovereignty against Russian aggression.
Poland has been at the forefront of supporting Ukraine, allocating over 4.91% of its GDP to military and humanitarian aid. This assistance includes tanks, armored personnel carriers, and artillery systems, alongside food, medicine, and shelter for those affected by the conflict.
The Ambassador also raised concerns about Russia’s disinformation campaigns aimed at destabilizing Poland, Ukraine, and the EU as part of a hybrid warfare strategy.
The growing economic ties between Poland and Pakistan were highlighted, with bilateral trade increasing from €456.74 million in 2018 to €861 million in 2023. The Ambassador underscored the success of the GreenEvo initiative, which introduced innovative green technologies to Pakistan and fostered business connections in Karachi and Lahore.
The Polish Ambassador also highlighted the significant contributions of the Polish Oil and Gas Company (POGC)/Orlen Group, operating in Pakistan since 1997. With investments exceeding USD 450 million, the company has made breakthroughs in tight gas discoveries and plans to double its investments in the coming years.
He stressed the importance of timely payments for gas deliveries to ensure continued success and encouraged a stable and transparent economic environment to attract further investments.
Poland’s economic transformation since 1989 was spotlighted as a model of success. The nation has experienced an 826.96% increase in GDP, positioning it as the fastest-growing large economy among upper-middle-income countries. Poland’s strong economic performance serves as a foundation for expanding trade and investment partnerships, including with Pakistan.
Poland’s contributions to the Middle East crisis were acknowledged, including $12.2 million in aid to Palestine during 2023-24. This support targeted vulnerable populations, reinforcing Poland’s commitment to a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.
The Ambassador Maciej also discussed the migration crisis at the Polish-Belarusian border, attributing it to hybrid warfare tactics aimed at destabilizing the EU. Poland remains steadfast in collaborating with EU partners to address illegal migration and secure its borders.
The Ambassador outlined Poland’s vision for its upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union, focusing on enhanced defense, border security, and countering disinformation. Poland aims to strengthen EU-NATO cooperation and develop a secure and resilient Europe.
The Polish Ambassador concluded by reaffirming Poland’s dedication to building stronger ties with Pakistan, promoting global peace, and addressing key international challenges such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He emphasized Poland’s role as a proactive global partner committed to fostering stability and development worldwide.
