The United Nations General Assembly has unanimously adopted a landmark resolution on the “Universal Realization of the Right of Peoples to Self-Determination,” spearheaded by Pakistan. The resolution reaffirms the inalienable right of all peoples to self-determination, particularly those living under foreign occupation, colonial rule, or subjugation. It emphasizes that realizing this right is essential for protecting and advancing human rights globally.
For over 40 years, Pakistan has championed this resolution to highlight the struggles of those denied their fundamental rights, with a focus on Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine. It reinforces international backing for their legitimate aspirations for independence and freedom.
The unanimous adoption reflects the collective will of UN member states to uphold the principle of self-determination, enshrined in the UN Charter and other international human rights covenants. The resolution also sends a strong message of solidarity to oppressed peoples worldwide, urging an end to foreign occupation and intervention.
Pakistan’s leadership ensures the issue of self-determination remains central in global discussions, offering renewed hope to millions striving for freedom, justice, and equality.
