The official initiation of Iran’s 12th round of parliamentary elections and the sixth round of the Assembly of Experts, showcasing a momentous democratic process within the Islamic Republic. Commencing at 8 AM local time, over 15,000 candidates vie for seats in a fiercely competitive election, with an impressive 51 candidates contending for each position.
The Constitutional Council’s spokesperson, Tahan Nazif, disclosed that more than 350 foreign journalists are covering the elections, underlining the global significance of this democratic exercise. Additionally, approximately 230,000 public observers actively engage in overseeing the electoral process, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Security remains a top priority, with over 250,000 dedicated personnel strategically placed across the nation. Iran’s Deputy Minister of Interior revealed that nearly 300,000 individuals are committed to safeguarding the electoral process, emphasizing the government’s unwavering dedication to a secure and fair election.
Reflecting on the Islamic Republic system’s 45th anniversary, established with an unprecedented 98.2% public turnout in the referendum, this election marks a milestone in the nation’s democratic journey.
In a statement, H.E. Dr. Reza Amiri Moghaddam, Iranian ambassador to Pakistan, expressed the significance of this democratic endeavor. “As depicted by the Islamic Republic system, this election symbolizes the enduring spirit of democracy and public participation. We celebrate 45 years of a resilient and inclusive governance model,” he noted.
