ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN — In the lead-up to the general elections, nomination papers of several prominent figures, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and a former Prime Minister, were declined for National Assembly Constituencies NA 122 in Lahore and NA 89 in Mianwali.
The final lists of approved and rejected nomination papers have been unveiled, revealing the exclusion of key party leaders such as former PTI Chairman Imran Khan from NA 122. Additionally, papers from 11 other candidates, including Khurram Latif Khosa, were also rejected.
On Saturday, the returning officer, Muhammad Iqbal, announced the decision, citing two primary reasons for Khan’s disqualification: an unregistered supporter and Khan’s previous conviction in the Tosha Khana case.
Mian Naseer, a former Member of Punjab Assembly from the Muslim League (N), had raised objections against Khan’s nomination, asserting that Khan’s supporter had no ties to NA-122. Naseer further highlighted Khan’s five-year disqualification due to the Tosha Khana case.
In response, PTI’s legal representative indicated that an appeal would be lodged with the tribunal against the nomination’s rejection, citing prior concerns about the returning officer’s integrity and ongoing corruption allegations against him.
