The Russian Embassy in Pakistan hosted a ceremony in Islamabad to mark Defender of the Fatherland Day, a national holiday honoring the military personnel and veterans of Russia.
The ceremony commenced with the national anthems of both nations Russia and Pakistan, symbolizing the enduring bond they share.
Speaking at the event, Colonel Vadim, N Fenchenko Defence Attaché of the Russian Federation, emphasized the significance of the occasion and its role in preserving national heritage and military valor.
In his address, Col. Vadim N. Fenchenko highlighted Russian President Vladimir Putin’s declaration of 2025 as the “Year of the Defender of the Fatherland,” paying tribute to the historical and contemporary defenders of Russia. He underscored the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, noting its importance in the global fight against Nazism, says press note.
The Defence Attaché stressed that the year 2025 would serve as a reminder of historical memory and the enduring value of peace, with a focus on national unity and the continuity of generations in upholding Russia’s military legacy. He also pointed out that the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland replaces the Year of the Family in 2024, reinforcing the deep connection between family values and service to the Motherland.
The celebrations in Russia will feature large-scale events and ceremonies, reflecting a rethinking of historical heritage and strengthening ties between generations. Col. Vadim emphasized the values of self-sacrifice, courage, and loyalty, which have been passed down through generations of Russian soldiers.
Referring to the ongoing Special Military Operation in Ukraine, he reiterated that Russian troops were courageously fighting against neo-Nazism and protecting historical Russian lands. He expressed confidence that the objectives of the operation would be achieved and concluded his remarks with the words, “Victory will be with us.”
On this occasion, Russian Ambassador Albert P. Khorev, along with Defence Attaché Colonel Vadim N. Fenchenko and the Chief Guest, Air Vice Marshal Abid Latif, ceremonially cut a cake adorned with the flags of Russia and Pakistan.
The event was attended by diplomats, defense officials, and members of the Russian community in Pakistan, Media Representative and Pakistani community reaffirming strong bilateral ties between Russia and Pakistan in the defense sector.
