The State of Palestine deplores the statement made by Germany’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Annalena Baerbock, to the German Parliament legitimizing Israel’s well documented crimes against the Palestinian people, justifying Israel’s genocide, and defending Israel’s colonial aspirations, says press note.

The State of Palestine is alarmed by the dehumanizing rhetoric reducing the Palestinian people to military targets, unprotected by the law, in violation of the fundamentals of international law, ICJ Advisory Opinion and orders.

International humanitarian law does not allow Israel, the occupying Power, to commit genocide. International humanitarian law, and indeed morality and humanity, also oblige States, including Germany, to ensure respect for the law, refrain from sending weapons to Israel during its genocide, and work towards ending Israel’s illegal occupation.

The State of Palestine reminds that the realization of the rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination and independence are the permanent responsibility of the international community.

The inalienable rights of the Palestinian people are fully recognized and firmly preserved under international law and are intertwined with the multilateral system established after the horrors of World War II. The realization of the rights of the Palestinian people is necessary to fulfill the promise of the multilateral system that ‘all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.’

Indeed, Israel’s 76 years exceptionalism is rooted in the so-called “rules based order” where international crimes and grave violations of international law, including aggression, annexation, apartheid, illegal occupation, and genocide are condoned, overlooked, and justified only in Palestine.
Israeli exceptionalism has haunted the development of international law and denied millions its protection. It has led to Israel’s killing of over 42,000 Palestinians including 17,000 children in a year, and the extermination of an entire people. This is why the State of Palestine calls on world leaders and officials to act responsibly and warns against sacrificing the law on the altar of political calculations.

The State of Palestine reaffirms that any explanation of the statement made must be consistent with international law and fully recognizes the illegality of the statement and its dangerous implications, especially on the lives of the Palestinian people and their existence.

The State of Palestine will take the necessary diplomatic, legal, and political measures to protect the Palestinian people, in accordance with international law.
International law should apply for all. Palestine and the Palestinian people are not the exception.
